GUWAHATI: The Anusuchita Jati Yuba Chatra Parishad, Asom has demanded that the State Government should fill up 20,000 backlog posts reserved for the community, as well as conduct verification and renewal of caste certificates to weed out ineligible persons.

Addressing the media here on Thursday, the organization's president, Hemakanta Das and general secretary, Jitu Kakati said that the then Minister of Welfare of Plains Tribes & Backward Classes, Pramila Rani Brahma had stated on the floor of the Assembly in 2018 that 20,000 posts reserved for SC candidates were lying vacant at that point of time. However, Das and Kakati said, these posts have not been filled up till date.

The duo demanded a special recruitment drive to fill up these vacant backlog posts within this year.

They also alleged that many people are serving in reserved posts in various Government department of the State by using fraudulent SC certificates. Complaints have been filed with the police against some of these fake SCs but not investigation has been done, they alleged. Das and Kakati demanded that a verification-cum-renewal drive of existing caste certificates be conducted to identity and remove fake SCs.

They also mentioned that the SC Development Board, which was set up in 2015, has been without a chairman after the demise of the earlier incumbent. As such, they demanded the board should be expeditiously reconstituted with a new chairman.
